Miss Lonely Hearts

"Miss Lonely Hearts" and "Roger"

"Miss Lonely Hearts" is the nickname for a client of the Dollhouse who regularly hires Victor, in one consistent imprinted identity, for engagements of a romantic/sexual nature. Dr. Saunders cautions against this type of repeated imprint, but the Dollhouse continues to acquiesce to this client's needs.

In the episode "A Spy in the House of Love" it is revealed that the identity is actually an alias used by Adelle DeWitt, who arranges for Victor's handler to deliver him to the home of an elderly woman as a deception. After arrival, Victor, as suave Englishman Roger, drives a car to a rendezvous with DeWitt, who answers to "Katherine" when with him. The two spent an energetic and romantic weekend together, however DeWitt gets emotional when "Roger" tells her how real their love is, reducing her to tears. She decides not to hire out Victor again, simply telling Topher Miss Lonely Hearts had closed her account.

In "Belonging", Matthew Harding mentions that he knows that Adelle was hiring out Victor. His comments suggest that this is officially forbidden but tolerated.

In "Stop-Loss", Adelle decides to hire out Victor again for one last weekend as his time with the Dollhouse was nearly up, and also to try and distract herself from all the ethical compromises she'd been forced to make. However to her bewilderment "Roger" ended up dumping her claiming to be in love with someone else although he didn't have a clue who. It turned out that Victor's feelings for Sierra had compromised the imprint, as proven when he was wiped but immediately asked for her. In her anger, Adelle accidentally revealed to Topher that she was Miss Lonely Hearts.

Trivia[]

  • Coincidentally, "Lonely Hearts" is used elsewhere in Whedon's work. It is also the name of episode 1x02 of Angel.
